Right now I am going to focus on natural solutions to air pollution, in relation to earth science. I will include some links to sites that have what I will be talking about as well.
First off are green walls, otherwise known as living walls. These have become more prevalent over the recent years as people have become more environmentally conscious. These walls have plants growing from them, and have been made into works of art.

I think the green walls are the coolest things! Some of the class seemed kind of turned off by them but it's way nicer than looking at some decrepit bricks. I like the topic which students may not even think about! Especially indoor pollution and the negative effects it could have on their health. I think a large part of my brothers asthma issues was spending more time growing up in NYC than I did. I love the background also, I'm jealous I didn't figure how to do that before haha.
ReplyDeleteI think part of the reason they were turned off was that some of them did look rather mossy. Also, I don't think many of them have seen these in person. They look a lot cooler when you can actually touch them.
ReplyDeleteWhile I was looking at the plant solutions I was amazed at how many plants you would need to keep the air really clean for just one person (at least 8, four cleaners and four oxygen rich). My mom has asthma, partly from smoking, partly from the walking pneumonia that helped her quit smoking. Probably, was the area that you lived in NYC sparsely vegetated?
I've noticed, while walking different routes on campus, that the areas with forested areas are cooler and smell cleaner than the less vegetated areas. Though the campus is lusher in vegetation than other colleges that I've been to.
The background was one of the templates. I'd originally chosen the travelling one, but I thought this one fit better.
